The Story

Born in Kinshasa and raised in Lewisham, Obed started boxing at ten years old at Lynn AC on the Old Kent Road — one of London's great amateur clubs — under coach Samm Mullins.

The medals came early: bronze at the Junior World Championships at sixteen, ABA national champion at seventeen, then Junior European and Junior World bronze in the same year. By 2007 he was boxing for England's seniors at York Hall, and a year later at the European Championships in Liverpool.

In 2010 he was named in England's squad for the Delhi Commonwealth Games at light-heavyweight, chasing a home Olympics at London 2012. Boxing runs in the family — his younger brother is the professional welterweight Chris Kongo.

Now that experience works for you. The same fundamentals, standards and corner-craft that took him from a south London gym to the England vest — brought to every session he coaches.
